I was born and raised in Michigan. I am a graduate of Michigan State University. I have worked for Nielsen Media Research(The Nielsen TV Ratings) and Walt Disney World. I have been a Guthrie Blue Jay since 2004. My first five years were spent serving children with special needs. I pride myself in being able to differentiate my lesson plans so all students are equally challenged.
I currently teach US History, and AP US History. Students are expected to come to class with supplies necessary to complete daily assignments. My classroom is set in a collaborative learning environment. Students work in groups of three or four depending on class size, completing daily projects to help ensure mastery of skills. All students are required to participate in daily activities and to offer valid input to the group.
I follow the handbook completely. Any use of cellular phones or electronic devices will result in disciplinary action including having the device confiscated and turned in to the discipline office. I also monitor morning detention for administrative discipline. Because of this I have a very limited plan time. Should you wish to meet with me, I will be happy to do so before or after school. You may reach me via email or phone at the information listed above. This is my seventh year as Department Chair for the Social Studies department. I was twice selected District Teacher of the Year for Guthrie Public Schools, am currently serving as VFW Citizen teacher of the Year. I am passionate about American History and I work desperately to make sure my students become outstanding citizens.
