ORIENTATION TASKS - ALL BLUEJAY ACADEMY & FAVER STUDENTS
ORIENTATION TASKS - ALL BLUEJAY ACADEMY STUDENTS
NOTE: Active enrollment in the Bluejay Academy requires the successful completion of 80-100 activities every week AFTER the Orientation Tasks are complete. Assignments sent back for plagiarism, etc., are not counted in this total. The Orientation Tasks are built into the coursework plan, so you are not missing coursework time. "Just give me a zero," is not accepted in BJA.
The Orientation Tasks are required and will be graded.
TASK I:
PART 1:
Please follow the steps on the BJA Logging In, Google Apps, Clever, and Edgenuity tab of the BlueJay Academy webpage. If you cannot access any of the applications, please e-mail us at BJA@guthrieps.net
PART 2:
Sign up for your cohort's Google Classroom with the information below. (High School students only.) Your cohort is the year that you should graduate. If you are in 9th grade in 24-25, you are in the 2028 cohort. This is VERY important so you can receive information from the high school.
Class of 2025: Google Classrorom code: bqr3jtg
Class of 2026: Google Classroom code: pv42od5
Class of 2027: Google Classroom code: qzy4z7k
Class of 2028: Google Classroom code: kzajmfm
TASK II:
Sending an appropriate e-mail.
- Always be polite.
- Use proper English grammar and spelling -- this is not a text to a friend.
- Include the specific course name & assignment being discussed.
- Do not start a message or conversation with "Hey."
- Always use an informative subject line -- short but accurate.
- Type the message in the body of the e-mail -- not in the subject line.
- Only use your school email for school correspondence.
Email Tasks Cards on Google Slides. DOWNLOAD to your Google Drive before you begin working on them. During the download process, change the name to your LastName, FirstName E-mail Orientation Task. Using the newly named file, complete the lesson. Share your work with bja@guthrieps.net.
TASK III:
Review these articles & videos to help as you prepare to begin your coursework. Even if this is not your first year in BJA, review these videos!! Many of you kinda forgot this information last year....... If, throughout the year, you ask basic questions that are covered in these videos / notes, you will be redirected to the video. PAY ATTENTION, take notes, and remember they are here for reference throughout the semester!!!!!
- Getting Started with Edgenuity
- Using Guided Notes (You REALLY want to do these!!!! You can use any notes you take on your final exams.)
- On-Demand Tutoring, the Concept Coach
- Taking Notes (Again, any notes you take -- not copied or pasted / borrowed -- can be used on your final exams.)
- Uploading / Downloading Files
- Edgenuity Writing Assignment Help
- Lettuce Write a Thesis Statement
- How to Construct An Essay -- there are video links at the end for you to review after reading the article.
TASK IV:

AI - Artificial Intelligence Report:
How the Edgenuity Generative AI Detector Works
Our Generative AI Detector tool functions very similarly to AI tools like ChatGPT. Content created by AI tools is created as the result of “training” that occurs by scanning numerous amounts of human-written source text. The AI tool then creates the content based on its training.
The Generative AI Detector was trained to detect AI-generated responses by using similar algorithms. The Generative AI Detector is trained on trillions of pages of publicly available human-written content from thousands of universities and enterprises worldwide. Our detector uses its training to determine the probability that the submitted content was generated by a human or an AI tool.
AI content detection is included in the PDF report with the Plagiarism Checker. Next Task: View Edgenuity Overview of AI-Detector & Plagiarism Checker.
Last Task for today: REMEMBER THIS!! ON ASSIGNMENTS, when the basic instructions say, "include a list of the websites used," you are required to submit a properly formatted Works-Cited page. This is your "notice" that this is required, regardless of what the Edgenuity/Imagine Learning information says.
TASK V:
PART 1: Review information about Chrome Browser Version by clicking this link.
- If your Bluejay Academy Teacher Adviser has contacted you, send your response -- in a properly formatted e-mail -- to your Adviser.
- If your Bluejay Academy Teacher Adviser has not contacted you, don't stress. They will. If this is the case, send your response to bja@guthrieps.net... again, in a properly formatted e-mail.
PART 2: Review the Steps to Troubleshoot from Home document. Keep these in a handy location for reference purposes. Generally, we have a couple of hours, a couple of times during the first couple of months of school, when Edgenuity is down. It's ok. Everyone will be in the same boat. There is absolutely nothing Guthrie Schools, your teacher adviser, or your dog can do about it. It's called, "I use technology; therefore, I am flexible and exercise patience."
PART 3: REMEMBER THIS!! ON ASSIGNMENTS, when the basic instructions say, "include a list of the websites used," you are required to submit a properly formatted Works-Cited page. This is your "notice" that this is required, regardless of what the Edgenuity/Imagine Learning information says.
TASK V:
Review:
Within the next week, you will receive an e-mail from your Teacher Adviser. This person will be your primary contact for your BJA coursework.
